Welcome to the German Embroiderer’s Guild

About us

Stitching is our passion! The German Embroiderer’s Guild e.v. was founded in 1998 by a small group of needlework enthusiasts. The main initiator was Bärbel Zimber, who was repeatedly asked by her students why there is an embroiderer’s guild all over the world, but not with us. After we asked ourselves this question, there was only one answer to this question: Because no one has founded it yet!

That has changed to the positive! In the meantime, we have developed into a slightly larger group with a very high level of expertise and an even greater love for textile crafts. Many of our members have completed qualified training in hand embroidery and are happy to share their knowledge with interested parties. Some have built up business or an online trade after the training, so that the availability of the large variety of materials will get a little better, even in Germany!

The German Embroiderer’s Guild is present at various major shows such as the Creativa in Dortmund and the Nadelwelt in Karlsruhe and also on smaller markets, in order to show on site the diversity and beauty of this though very old but absolutely not old-fashioned craft. We keep informing you about the profession ofDesigning Crafts WoMan, which replaced 2011 the former training professions Embroiderer, Knitter and Weaver and in addition to these 3 specialist areas was still supplemented with felting, lacemaking and passamentery.

Since 2006, we also regularly participate in Erasmus projects in the field of adult education as the German Embroiderer’s Guild. The International School for Textile Arts is a cooperation partner for this.

Do It Yourself

is our motto. Enjoy embroidery and textile design with your own hands. Create beautiful things from your own power and thus do good to the soul and the world! Since we do not yet have the big number of members such as an English or American Embroiderer’s Guild, we cannot offer our members very much like a member newspaper, for example. We are always happy to provide advice and support and will also build up a small knowledge base for our members in the coming months.
In addition, there is a regular newsletter that will teach you about past and future projects. Members also benefit from discounts at events and some online shops.
The practical work is mainly done by our active members, who are all volunteers and devote a lot of time to the matter, which we are all very happy about.

The red thread throughout all areas, our board members hold on both ends

We welcome all your messages, questions and suggestions and will be happy to answer them as quickly as possible. Your email address will only be used for this purpose and according to the DSGVO, of course never passed on to third parties.
